Sturdy Little PlantSep 17, 2011
By M. B. Stoker Jujubes are great fruit trees as the the fruit yield to maintenance ratio is higher for them than any other fruit tree I can think of. PLUS they pack more Vitamin C than probably any other fruit. I kept this Lang jujube in a pot and planted in winter, though I think that in the Southwest you can plane jujubes pretty much year round, I didn't see any above soil growth on this little plant, but when I took it out of the pot the roots were everywhere!
Planted in Dec. 2011, and now is growing, though not as fast as another jujube I have which is supposed to be somewhat dwarfing, though this may be due to rocky soil. The great thing about jujubes is that they can thrive in almost any type of soil Plant currently looks healthy and leafed out (no surprise as Jujube are fairly disease resistant), though I might not get the 3 feet of growth I would expect for a jujube due to its young age. If you want fruit within the first year, get a larger specimen, if you have patience then it is fun watching it grow from a sapling.
